前回の記事の流れでDWEのplay a long,straight playのセットを購入した我が家。
購入したのは娘が1歳8ヶ月頃、当時看護師としてフルタイム勤務だったので、DVDの掛け流しは朝晩1本づつ、夜はその日見たDVDのbookを読み聞かせする生活で、娘はアンパンマンやお母さんといっしょといったテレビ番組に特に執着もなかったので、以外にもDWEがすんなり生活に馴染みました❣️
購入半年後、娘が2歳過ぎた頃にはstep by stepというワークに取り組むような教材を10万円で追加購入し、課題をwebで提出しながらレベルアップしていくCAP制度に取り組み始め、特につまづくこともなく、4年後の6歳、年長さんの夏に最終CAPとなるイエローキャップ取得し、現在ユーザー歴7年になります。
まだ卒業はしていないのですが、卒業課題というのが、自分で英語でDWEをやっていてよかったことをプレゼンしないといけないので、日本語でのプレゼンも満足にできない小学校2年生にはまだ卒業は早いかと、我が家はまだ見送っています。
DWEの細かな活用法はまた別にまとめますが、DWEだけで本当に英語ができるようになるか、という問いには、私はNOと答えます。
ですが、DWEだけで英語がコミュニケーションが取れるようになるか、という問いにはYESですね⭐️
DWEで身につくのはスピーキング、リスニング能力だと思います。
英語4技能のうち、ライティング、リーディング能力は我が家の場合、DWEだけではつきませんでした。
4歳の時にくもんで国語と算数を始めたので、日本語を書き始め、自分で読み始める段階で英語もそこに持っていきたかったのですが、娘のくもんの先生は幼稚園生に3教科受講は無理が生じて続かないことが多いのでやらせたくないと断られてしまい。。。当時通っていたCFK（DWEのやっている英会話）ではまだまだライティングはなく、自分で海外のキンダークラスのライティングテキスト（BIG kinder garten）を買ってみるも、やはり評価してくれる第三者がいないと続かず。。。
リーディングについてはDWEのbookを結構自分で読めていたので大丈夫なのかと思いきや、図書館で洋書のリーディング練習用の絵本（I can read!やoxford reading）を借りてきたら、驚くほど読めないwwww
そこでネットで調べて学んだのは リーディング能力をつけるにはフォニックスを学ぶ必要がある ということです。フォニックスの説明は↓こちらにWikipediaの引用を貼りますね。
フォニックス（英: Phonics）とは、英語において、綴り字と発音との間に規則性を明示し、正しい読み方の学習を容易にさせる方法の一つである。英語圏の子供や外国人に英語の読み方を教える方法として用いられている。フォニックスでは例えば「発音 /k/ は c, k, ck のどれかで書かれる」のように、ある発音がどの文字群と結び付いているかを学び、それらの文字の発音を組み合わせて知らない単語の正しい発音を組み立てる方法を学ぶことができる
このフォニックス、DWE教材の中では一切触れられてないんですよね〜〜〜DWE会員サイトのオンラインショップではフォニックスを扱ったものもあるんですけど、DWEオリジナルのものは一切ないので別で調べることに。
調べるとこれまたDVD系の教材が沢山あるんですよね。私はアメリカの子どもたちが学ぶように学んでほしかったので、まずはleap frogというシリーズのフォニックスDVDを購入しました。こちらはAmazonで当時３０００円ほどでした。これまた娘には大ヒット。毎日のように見て、シンプルな読み方はすぐに覚えました⭐️次にshやthなどアルファベットが複数集まることで決まった読み方になるようなルールを教えてくれるようなものを探し、たどり着いたのはBenesseが出しているフォニックスDVD。ここにきて日本企業です。
このBenesseのフォニックスDVDは、DWEのBenesse版、ワールドワイドキッズという教材に含まれているようでした。フォニックスDVDだけを正規購入ということは出来ず、ワールドワイドキッズを丸ごと正規購入すると285,560円という価格で（2023年3月にワールドワイドキッズは販売終了したそうで）そもそもフォニックスDVDはいらなかったので正規購入はもちろんせず。毎日毎日中古サイトで探して、結局私はメルカリで1、2巻セットを19800円で購入。こちらのDVDはフィニックス体操や可愛いお姉さんが出てきたり、さすがはBenesseというクオリティー⭐️こちらも飽きることなく毎日のように見ていました。
フォニックスを強化し始めて、毎日読み聞かせの本をDWEだけでなく他の洋書の絵本も読むようになると、年中には初見のoxford Readingもlevel1,level1+、level2は読めるようになっていました⭐️
リーディング能力もこうやって伸ばせばいいのかとわかってきた矢先、少し挫折を味わった体験があったのでまた書きます。。。
